Strategy

The Norwegian Space Centre is responsible for national strategy in Earth observation and in 2002 joined with leading national actors to compile a “Strategy for operational Earth observation 2002-2012”.

The strategy focuses on:

  • meeting principal user needs
  • supporting the most promising applications of satellite data in terms of national use and business potential
  • prioritizing national resource use for evolving better services

Together with other data, satellite data can contribute to improving, simplifying and lowering the cost of management of Norwegian resources and the environment, and to increasing safety along the coast.
The challenges of implementing the strategy include:

  • ensure and finance long-term, regular access to data for operational uses
  • realize development projects in operational systems and devices and continuously develop new methods and models
  • develop better supply chains that can evolve integrated information products based on user needs
  • draw users into committed co-operation on the development and operation of services
  • improve educational offerings and raise the level of knowledge, particularly in management
