Communications

Telecommunications is the largest part of the space sector, generating two-thirds of the sector’s annual turnover, or more than NOK 4 billion (about €490 million) a year.

INTELSAT VI. Ill: NASA.
Telenor and NERA are the principal companies, with products and services for mobile satellite communications (Inmarsat), TV broadcasting and, increasingly, satellite systems for multimedia and broadband.

The Norwegian Space Centre aims to further national goals for space activities and to co-ordinate relevant work in the space sector. Membership in the European Space Agency (ESA) is instrumental in attaining goals. So NSC contributes to developing ESA programmes and encourages Norwegian companies to become involved in rewarding activities.
